What is it and how can it benefit me?

Have you all been wondering what Mickey and Sammy are talking about when we say “We have Alkaline Water here at the gym?” Well, now you don’t have to wonder anymore!

The “alkaline” in alkaline water refers to its pH level. A pH level is a number that measures how acidic or alkaline a substance is on a scale of 0 to 14. For ex: Something with a pH of 1 would be very acidic, something with a pH of 13 would be very alkaline, and something with a pH of 7 would be neutral.

Most tap water or drinking water’s pH range from 4-7 with most of them usually residing in the more acidic level. Alkaline water has a higher pH than normal drinking water hence the name.

Now that we understand what it is, why do we care what the pH of our water is? Our bodies function optimally in a balanced neutral pH state. The pH of our bodies ranges from 7.35-7.45. Due to the foods that we eat, beverages we drink, the stress of our environment and sometimes sedentary lifestyle, this can throw us out of balance. Many diseases and illnesses thrive in an acidic environment. If you’ve ever experienced chronic joint pain or fatigue, frequent illnesses, depression, skin problems, sluggish digestion, brain fog and numerous other symptoms these are signs that your body could be out of balance.

What are the benefits of alkaline water? Alkaline water is a powerful antioxidant and helps detoxify the body! Antioxidant’s help fights free radicals in our bodies. Free radicals cause many of the diseases and illnesses that people suffer from as well as speed up the aging process and reduce oxygen to your cells. Free radicals come from a variety of sources like pollution, cigarette smoke, and household cleaners. By drinking alkaline water you can help your body fight off many of the diseases, like cancer, and also boost your immune system.

Alkaline water helps balance the pH levels in your blood. The average modern diet consists of fatty meats, cheeses, sugar, butter, coffee and alcohol. Enjoying these items too much and not incorporating enough water and veggies can foster an acidic environment where disease and illness likes to thrive. By drinking alkaline water you can help balance your body by helping neutralize the acids caused by a poor intake.

Alkaline water allows for better hydration because it has smaller molecules that are more easily and effectively absorbed by the body. With better hydration your organs and cells function properly by increasing the ability to properly transport and eliminate waste products (helping with bowel movements), increasing circulation throughout the body and increasing muscle recovery by helping flush the lactic acid out of your muscles.

These are just some of the numerous benefits found with this simple implementation within your health routine. One of the benefits that Sammy noticed was better more restful sleep since drinking it. Per Mickey Sammy is more difficult to wake up!
